ALUMINIUM CONDUCTORS STEEL SUPPORTED (ACSS)

ACSS Conductors with a concentric structure. The conductor is constructed of a steel core braided with one or more aluminium wire layers.

ACSS Conductors are manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the latest edition of ASTM standards of the applicable B856 specification. The annealed aluminium used in the conductors makes it more flexible, thanks to which most of the loads rest on the steel core, which acts as the load-bearing function of the ACSS conductor The steel core may consist of 7, 19, 37 class A zinc-coated wires. Such a coating is usually sucient for use under normal environmental operating conditions of conductors.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

ACSS Conductor are similar to traditional ACSR Conductor, additionally they have some very important advantages. The ACSS Conductor can work continuously without damage at high temperatures (200 ° C). When using cables for 250 ° C service, consider using a 5% zinc-aluminium mixture or polished aluminium to coat the steel. For emergency electrical load, the sag of ACSS cables is much smaller than for ACSR Conductor, they have a high ability to damp mechanical oscillations and in the final stage, the decay of vibrations is not covered by long time creep of aluminium

APPLICATION

Aluminium conductors with a steel core (ACSS) are used in overhead power lines, they are especially suitable for applications of changing the parameters of existing lines, where it is required to increase the power transmission for existing voltages and clearances.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

At a temperature of 20°C (68°F), the density of hard-drawn aluminium has been taken as 2.703 g/cm3 (168.74 lb/cf) and for steel wire 7.78 g/cm3 (485.69 lb/cf).
